Control the stress of your day with proper sleep
by Sharon Weldon | December 6, 2010 | AdviceSleep Quantity and Quality will influence the person you are today!
- Try to get up at the same time every morning. Your body clock needs to settle into a regular rhythm so that it knows when it is time to sleep and time to wake up.
- Cut down on the caffeine. Keep your energy levels up by having a good breakfast that includes whole grains and fresh fruit.
- Thirty minutes of exercise a day If you can, walk to work, or park further away so you can walk the rest of the way. It is important to make time every day for walking, exercise will stimulate your mind and body while increasing alertness throughout your day.
- Sunshine!! Artificial lighting can interfere with sleep so get your dose of vitamin D get outside and breathe in some fresh air.
- Get your evening meal on the table as early as possible eat lightly with plenty of fresh vegetables, don’t make your stomach work all night digesting big lumps of meat.
- Spend some time winding down relax listen to soft music, have a warm bath and enjoy a soothing drink, such as chamomile tea before you go to bed. This helps put you in the mood to sleep.
- Go to bed at a reasonable hour allow a few minutes to reflect on the positive aspects in your day Ayurveda suggests 10pm is the perfect time to fall asleep
- Clear out the clutter! Turn off the cell phone, television, move your laptop to another room. No stray light to interfere with your sleep inducing hormones If you are waking up with a sore back it might be time to change your mattress studies suggest that if a mattress is over five years old it might be time for a new one it is after all where we spend 1/3 of our lives!! Choose natural fiber sheets made from 100% organic cotton
