Jessica and Paul

by Theresa Bogdanski | July 7, 2010 | Weddings

Jessica and Paul were married on February 6, 2010 on a beautiful winter day. Jessica looked stunning in a white gown with a bead encrusted bodice and cap sleeves. Her hair was done up in loose curls and accented with a white flower. The boys looked strapping in their black and white tuxes. Their reception was a winter wonderland with crystal snowflakes and dazzling candle centerpieces. Cupcakes looked scrumptious with a blue icing snowflake on each. This truly was a lovely reception for a lovely couple.

Robert A. Lavelle (aka ‘Heater’, Bob, Bobby)

If the measure of a man is the number of people whose lives he has touched and who have been better for it, Bob Lavelle was a giant.

Whether one called him Robert, Bobby, Uncle Bob, or as many did, ‘Heater’, we all knew him to have wonderful and endearing character traits.

Many knew Bob as the Promotions Manager for the city of Niagara Falls. He was also known as the part-owner of the Niagara Falls Mariners and renowned as the part-owner of the infamous Niagara institution – Clancy’s bar. Everyone knew Bob in Niagara!

He was also responsible for bringing the NHL Slo-Pitch tournament to Niagara Falls. In its prime, the tournament was hugely successful with thousands of hockey fans flooding Oakes Park to hunt for autographs and to watch the games.

Bob worked in marketing and developed various high profile events over the years as he served as a long-term, very successful and vibrant employee at Bell Mobility. He also handled all of the marketing for NHL star, Doug Gilmour, after he retired in 2003.

Though he lived in Stoney Creek in his final years, Bob still kept projects going in Niagara Falls, including the Niagara Pro Hockey Fantasy Camp, which teamed hockey fans up with NHL players for an unforgettable experience.

Bob never lost sight of, and was always a huge part of, the community. The two events that have been created in his honour will keep his memory alive while raising funds to support families in Niagara Falls communities.

  1. To honor Bob, a charitable fund is being established to provide financial support to a number of causes/interests that were near and dear to him.The Robert A. Lavelle Memorial Fund has set a fundraising GOAL of $50,000 in its first year. The GOAL is easily achievable due to the generosity of our celebrity guests, each of whom has donated their time to participate as one of ‘Heater’s Heroes’; the sponsors, including Rogers Communications, our Title Partner, and an amazing volunteer organizing committee.
  2. A Sports Celebrity Dinner & Auction expected to be attended by many of his good friends and supporters including:
Rod Black Don Luce
Bill Bradshaw Terry Martin
Michael Burgess Jim McKenney
Larry Carriere John Muckler
Wendel Clark Harry Neale
Cal Clutterbuck Pat Quinn
Marcel Dionne Lindy Ruff
Dave Ellett Gord Singleton
Doug Gilmour Derek Smith
Curt Harnett Fred Stanfield
Rick Jeanneret Brian Stemmle
Don Lever Mike Strange
Caitlyn Lever Jay Triano
Bryan Lewis Rick Vaive
Rick Ley

Little Leaders at the Americana

by Sharon Weldon | May 20, 2010 | Initiatives

As the leader in family entertainment, The Americana Conference Resort & Spa is taking the initiative to create programs that award the true stars in their community I am very excited for the launch of our new program: Little Leaders! The enthusiasm children show towards events such as: fundraising, charities, community volunteering, and helping others can sometimes go unrecognized! The Americana Resort is thrilled to honor the hard work and dedication of these little leaders to the community!

Little Leaders is a program that recognizes the great work that children between the ages of 7 and 13 achieve in their daily lives. Children will be nominated each month by teachers, parents, friends, or family, where a detailed story will be submitted and published onto our web site. At the end of each month, a draw will take place where one of the nominees will win a pizza party and 4 water park passes for Waves Indoor Water Park in the Americana Resort and Spa.

The positive feedback that I’ve received from the Americana Resort owners and staff has been inspiring. Look for more details on our blog and homepage next week!

OMG it’s a week before my Wedding!

by Theresa Bogdanski | May 20, 2010 | Weddings

It’s the week before your big day and you have a list of last-minute details that need to be attended to. Here is some advice that will help you make it through:

Make sure to confirm your travel arrangements for your honeymoon, give the reception venue a final head count of guests, go over your arrangements with your photographer, videographer, band or DJ, florist, decorator, Cake, ceremony location, officiate, confirm hair appointment and limousine company.

Drop off your guestbook, signing photo, working pens, favours, receiving line shots and cake knife and server to the banquet hall. Make sure to have your seating chart or place cards ready to go (Tip, ask the reception venue for a floor plan to help you make your seating arrangements).

Pack your bag for your honeymoon, make arrangements for someone to take care of your house and pets while you are away and don’t forget how you are getting to and from the airport!

It’s going to be a very busy week, but try to schedule some “me” time as well. Having a Spa day, two days before your wedding will help you relax and get ready for the honeymoon. A manicure and pedicure is a must, but have a massage too! Research shows that massage therapy can help with Physical relaxation, Improved circulation, Relief for tight muscles (knots) and other aches and pains, release of nerve compression (carpel tunnel, sciatica), Greater flexibility and range of motion, and Enhanced energy and vitality. By the way, while you are at the Spa, turn off your cell phone! No need to speak to anyone right now!

Finally, enlist your Family and Friends to help! Make sure your Bridal Party is aware of what their duties are the day before, the day of and the day after your wedding. The Bridal party has been chosen to help you, not to just look pretty in photos!

Most importantly, make sure to breath! This day is going to be wonderful and if something happens to go not according to plan, no worries! You are marrying the person of your dreams, and this is what is important.
